Chile (General Plan)

My general plan for traveling to Chile was to really have no plan at all, and just wing it, bouncing from hostel to hostel.  As much as I have travelled, this would be the first time landing in a foreign country by myself with no canned tour, no support system, or guidance--strictly vagabondism, with no voluntourism.  I allotted myself 30 days to see all of Chile, which I soon realized is not enough if I were to tour at a relaxed pace.  Chile, although only about 110 miles wide on average, is almost 2700 miles long (about the width of the US)--what I would consider very model-esqe of the Victorias Secret variety.  So, I may extend my tour in Chile for up to 60 days, focusing on Santiago and the northern regions of Chile for the first 30 days, and the southern regions of Chile the second 30 days.

As for traveling between regions of Chile, my plan was to either rent a car or take a bus, given that I found that flying between cities in Chile was exorbitantly expensive (around $600).  However, I have since discovered that certain local airlines, such as Sky Airlines affords a relatively option (around $100).  I actually do not know how that even pays for the jet fuel, but I am sure they have figured that out.  So, flying will be my go to option for traveling between faraway regions of Chile, and I will use either a tour company or a car to travel within that region.
