Lake District (Volcan Osorno)
Next up was the drive up and the bike down Volcan Osorno. This time I was really hoping for good weather, since the view from atop Volcan Osorno is amazing as long as you are not looking down at the top of a cloud. This tour starts at 1pm for a specific reason--to allow the cloud cover to lift.
The plan was to drive to the base of the Volcan Osorno, and hike up an hour to the edge of the snow capped part. When we got up to the base, we were indeed enveloped in fog. Things looks a little ominous. We eventually hiked up through the fog, only to see a cloud covered peak. Things were looking a little bleak, but there was this 30-second period where the clouds parted to reveal peak of Volcan Osorno.
Literally 30 seconds later, the cloud covered the peak again.
Eventually, the peak of Volcan Osorno cleared for good, and we eventually hiked as far up as we could go.
We hiked back down to the base, where we ate some cookies (galletas), which I dipped in some nice hot coffee. Before we took off on the bikes, which was mainly the reason why we were there, I took a few more snap shots towards the lake and back up to Volcan Osorno.
We took off down the hill like bats out of hell, stopping at designated points along the way to take pictures
.
The sky never really did clear as much as I had wanted, but I was satisfied with the views that I had experienced. And on top of that, we finished so quickly that our tour guide took us back up to the base, so we can fly down the hill again.
As we drove back, I took one last picture of Volcan Osorno across the lake.

This was a far as we could go for this tour. There are some tours that go all the way to the peak, but it costs a few hundred more dollars and requires more preparation time as you require ice hiking equipment, and perhaps even requires a bit more ambition as it is not easy to do.
Having seen a clear view of the peak, I now wanted a clear view of Lake LLanquihue below. But the clouds were so stubborn that day.
